            Tom Niemeier

Tom Niemeier, founder of SPACE Architecture + Design Studio, has been elected to the American Institute of Architects St. Louis’ [AIASTL] Board of Directors as a director. His two-year term begins January 1, 2013.

A proud Wildcat, Niemeier is a graduate of Kansas State University and is a lifelong St. Louisan. He founded SPACE in 2005, and the firm has grown from a one-man office to a crew of 17 staff members, winning five AIA design awards along the way. In 2007, Tom added SPACEconstructors, which gave SPACE the ability to custom fabricate and offer general contracting services to its clients.

SPACE is responsible for the look of some of St. Louis’ most notable spaces, including, Academy of Environmental Science & Mathematics Middle School, Pi Pizzeria at the Mercantile Exchange, Pastaria and Niche at Centene, Franco, and Bobo Noodlehouse.

Niemeier cultivates a spirit of civic responsibility in the office by encouraging employees to get involved with organizations that are important to them, and he is honored to be selected by AIASTL to serve the St. Louis area himself. Niemeier said, “It’s an honor to be elected as a Director for St. Louis AIA. It’s a prestigious organization and I plan to bring some fresh ideas and approach to the practice of architecture.  Our profession has been beaten down over the last several years, and it is time to reassert our value to the built environment. The AIA will be a great platform to enable change.”
