Barb Wired opens at SPACE

In her newest collection, St. Louis artist Barb Flunker combines reclaimed materials in provocative multimedia arrangements in her show Barb Wired. Come to SPACE on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 6-8 PM to experience the newest evolution of her work in person.

In style and content, Barb’s pieces reflect her devotion to natural, organic forms. “Being in nature is exhilarating,” Barb said. “In warm months I love to work in the back yard.” Some of her earlier work incorporated leaves and twigs that fell on the canvas, and Barb Wired is a fuller, three-dimensional expression of her work in and with nature.

Featuring seven large sculptural pieces that incorporate discarded window frames, wire, screen and oil paint, the exhibit demonstrates the rich artistic possibilities and beauty in found objects. Barb’s work encourages the viewer to have a personal experience, but it’s hard not to consider our relationship with the objects we discard.

In addition to the large work, Barb is also installing several colorful “mini” oil and screen pieces. To see more of Barb’s work, visit her website at
